Everyone needs to immerse themselves in a good love story now and then. Amy and I did just that today as we took in the movie 'the holiday' which is now playing everywhere. The story, like most good love stories, contains characters who are either searching for love or unhappy with their life in general. In this particular movie two women - one from London, one from L.A.- switch houses for two weeks in order to escape the stagnant love life that awaits each of them back home. Once in their new surroundings, changes begin to occur and each woman finds themselves learning and experiencing love, though in different manners. But what unites their love stories symbolically, as well as literally at the end of the movie, is the mere ordinariness of it all. Not ordinary as in the sense of being boring, but as something commonplace, real, sometimes romantic, and quite uniquely human. Each of us take part in our own love stories, with all our different characters and conflicts and we too can enjoy the charms of daily love. Whether it's by meeting someone new or seeing an old friend, the romantic feeling of a kiss or the untimely and quite embarrassing petition of a child, love is something to be embraced. And not only in the idyllic sense but in the mere ordinariness that makes life such a joy to live. So go out and see a love story this Christmas, and make sure to star in your own as well!
